N4NO: CHRONICLE OF A VORAZZZ CREATIVE
Photos by Dani MJ
MJTurning ourselves into a character is the great temptation of our era. Between self-care and ambition, we have drawn a border between who we are and what we perform to survive the gaze of others. However, faced with this fragmentation, N4NO doesn’t blink. Sitting in Vorazzz—that sanctuary where the beat and the flavor collide—it becomes clear that he is not a sum of parts, but a single entity that cooks with the same urgency with which he writes lyrics.N4NO's creativity was born as a "heresy" in a Monterrey that didn't understand nuances. While his brother mastered instruments, he found his voice in the kitchen and in the rhythm of Ableton. What began as a teenage escape in the seat of a car ended up being the engine of a career."There is no real distinction between the cook and the musician. There are licenses, sure, but in the end, it’s a reflection of what I live: breakups, emotions, and moments," he says with the confidence of someone who has nothing left to prove.MAIN COURSE: The Kitchen as Refuge and ExecutionerHis journey through the world’s most demanding kitchens (Pujol, Noma, Fäviken) was a doctorate in endurance. In cities like New York or Tokyo, the pace was extreme: waking up at 4 a.m. and leaving at 2 a.m., with no time to be anything other than a gear in a Michelin-starred machine. There, music stopped being a hobby and became a statement of faith."I wrote in kitchen notebooks between recipes and bars. Making music was a way of saying: ‘Yes, I exist outside of this.’"The breaking point came after his time in Denmark. Physically exhausted but with his intuition sharpened, he sold his car, threw a party, and accepted his destiny: the apron and the microphone didn't have to compete. The kitchen gave him the discipline to lead; music gave him the freedom to not ask for permission.DESSERT: The Obsession with the Pure NoteToday, N4NO isn't looking for hype or trends. His gaze is set on composition—on the lyric that grounds the listener in the present, just like an acidic flavor or an unexpected texture does. His dream isn't the stadium, but the respect of those he admires and being a mirror for someone who, like him in Monterrey, believes that being creative is impossible.THE MENU: References and PairingsTo understand N4NO’s sonic palate, one must look at his fundamental ingredients:CourseIngredientTasting NotesAppetizerThe College Dropout (Kanye West)The cliché that becomes truth: the impulse to leave academia and embrace creation.Side DishLondon Grime SceneThe echoes of Burial and Four Tet that today provide the texture for his production.SauceMexico City (CDMX)The chosen environment; a complex and special mix that replaced conflict with love. The FinishDiscipline vs. IntuitionThe kitchen teaches how to execute; music teaches how to trust your own voice.N4NO leaves us with one certainty: music is forever, the kitchen is his creative home, and he remains that full-time voracious
